History of Iridology - the “Highlights”

Ancient Egyptian & Chaldean medical texts refer to iris markings. 

Hippocrates writes about constitutional implications of iris colour. 

1670: Philippus Meynens (Germany) publishes “Chiromatica Medica”. 

1786: Christian Haertels (Germany) publishes “De Oculo et Signo”. 

1826 - 1911 Ignatz Von Peczely (Hungary), physician & “Father of Iridology”. 

1851 - 1936 Nils Liljequist (Sweden): published works: “Quinine & Iodine Changed the Colour of the Iris” & “Diagnosis of the Eye”. 

1856 - 1926 Pastor Felke (Germany): not published but his work recorded in “The Eye Diagnosis, based upon the Principles of Pastor Felke” by A.Muller.

1904: H. E. Lahn (Austrian Emigre to USA) publishes “Iridology: the Diagnosis from the Eye”. 

1914-1990 Joseph Deck.(Germany) Taught students for many years in Ettlingen in Germany. Teacher of Willy Hauser and Rudolf Stolz who wrote “Information from structure and colour.” 

Theodor Kriege (Germany) Author of “Fundamental Basis of Iris Diagnosis.” 

Henry Lindlahr (USA - student of Lahn) editor of journal “Nature Cure” runs many articles on Iridology. 1913 publishes “Nature Cure Philosophy and Practice”. 

Bernard Jensen, student of Lindlahr, published many books on Nature Cure and Iridology. 

Dr John Christopher : founder of the “School of Natural Healing” combined iridology with herbal medicine. 

Dr Richard Schulze, student of Jensen & Christopher, pioneer of Natural Healing, used iridology in his practice. 

Harri Wolf: leading exponent of Iridology in the late 20th Century (& the 21st!), founder of NIRA “Applied Iridology” (TM). Influenced by Chinese medicine. Integrated iridology with psychology.
